About Focus Speech Pathology

Focus Speech Pathology is a small clinic in Cronulla — one room set up for the kinds of work we actually do: floor play for small children, table-top work for older children or adult therapy.

Why this practice exists

Most families don’t come to a speech pathologist because they know what’s wrong. They come because something feels “a bit off” and they want someone to look. The hardest part of the job — for the family, anyway — is often the waiting and the wondering. Focus exists to make that waiting shorter and the answers clearer.

We’re located inside Cronulla Medical Practice on Kingsway because that makes the path from GP to allied health one corridor instead of one suburb. We are independently owned and operated; we share a building with the medical practice but not a billing system or a clinical team.

What we believe

  • Small voices, big work. Most of our weekly caseload is children under five — the years when communication grows the fastest and the family benefits most from clear next steps.
  • Families are the experts. You know your child. Our job is to bring a technical lens, not replace yours. You’ll always understand what we’re doing and why.
  • Evidence, not method-of-the-month. We don’t subscribe to any one program. We use the tools the research supports, chosen to suit the family.
  • Honest “I don’t know yet” beats a confident guess. Some things need time learning and trialing before they make sense. You are always informed.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell long therapy blocks on day one. We don’t promise outcomes — it’s not how speech pathology works, and Australian professional rules prohibit testimonials and outcome claims anyway. We don’t share your information with marketing platforms; see our Privacy Policy for what we do and don’t do with your data.

Acknowledgment of Country

We acknowledge the Gweagal people of the Dharawal nation, the traditional custodians of the land where we work, and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.

Katrina has been a speech pathologist for more than ten years, and has spent most of that time working with young children and the families around them. Her focus is the under-fives — the years when communication grows fastest and when parents most often feel something is “a bit off” without yet knowing what.

She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology and is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia. Across her career she has worked with public hospitals, early-intervention services, and schools across the Sutherland Shire and inner-Sydney, which means she knows where the local referral paths actually go.

What sits underneath the credentials is a way of working. Katrina believes small children learn language best through the activities they already love — water play, picture books, dolls, dirt — and that the best therapy session is one a child wouldn’t recognise as therapy. She believes families are the experts on their own child, and that her job is to translate what she’s seeing into options the family can choose between.

When she’s not in the clinic, Katrina is at home in the Sutherland Shire with her husband and their three young children.
