Baby Sign Language classes

A four-week online course for parents and babies, 6–18 months.

Who it's for
Babies 6–18 months and their caregivers
Format
Online, four weekly 45-minute sessions
A baby looking at a touch-and-feel picture book held open by an adult, with small percussion instruments in the background.

Babies understand far more than they can say. Baby sign language uses simple, single-word signs — mostly drawn from Auslan — to bridge that gap during the months when speech is still developing.

The course. Four weekly online sessions, 45 minutes each, run live so you can ask questions and get feedback on what your baby is doing. Class size is capped at six families so it stays personal.

What you’ll learn.

  • Week 1: First signs and routines — milk, more, all done, eat, drink, sleep, bath, nappy, book.
  • Week 2: Feelings and people — happy, sad, tired, hurt, Mum, Dad, baby.
  • Week 3: Animals and outside the house — dog, cat, car, walk, park, swim.
  • Week 4: Putting it together — short phrases, turn-taking, what comes next.

You also get a printable reference of every sign covered, short demo videos to rewatch, and a private group where families share what’s working.

A note from a speech pathologist. Signing alongside speech does not delay talking — that myth has been studied and disproved. Hearing babies who sign tend to start speaking on the same timeline as their peers, and often with less frustration in the months in between. Baby sign is not a substitute for spoken language; it’s a tool that travels with your baby until words arrive.
